Puerta de Sol

Arrived in Madrid at 2:30pm. Thought we were going to get a hard time coming from Mexico and Peru, particularly about our vaccinations, but not one question asked. Got a taxi to Puerta de Sol. Cost 33 Euros which is way too much but it is very hard to argue with a spanish taxi driver who is giving you a hard time. We then went for a little walk around and realised we were literally in the heart of the city which is fantastic. The streets are really narrow and it is so quick and easy to get anywhere. You can literally walk from one side of the city to the other in about 40 minutes. We also had checked into a Gay Hostel. It had the cheapest rates, was closest to the city, had availability and said women welcome. Needless to say Pete was getting all the conversation and attention his way, and I was getting a bit of the 'and why are you here?'.
